Hello!

I'm Hannah, a specialist General Practitioner and board certified Lactation Consultant based in Melbourne, Victoria. With a focus on women's health, pregnancy care, contraception, and breastfeeding support, I am dedicated to enhancing health and wellbeing.

On top of my medical degree and further specialisation in General Practice, I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This further study and accreditation came about after experiencing breastfeeding my first son - and falling in love with a whole new world of breastfeeding knowledge. Having now breastfed all three of my young children, I consider myself to have a lot of first-hand experience! I offer research based advice and support, as well as lend a personal approach to each breastfeeding family.

As a GP, I am also committed to providing holistic care for all my patients throughout their pre-conception, pregnancy, and parenting journey.

Why a GP
Lactation Consultant?

Parenting can often be much more challenging than expected, and the additional tolls of the early days and weeks (a huge learning curve along with new responsibility, sleepless nights, and breastfeeding) can be considerable. I believe it's important in these early days to reach out and form your support team, with as many valuable members as you can!

A medical practitioner with additional lactation training is qualified in the complete spectrum of General Practice. In my role as a GP I have special interest and training in women's health, perinatal medicine, fertility and contraception, mental health, and paediatrics. My passion is lactation medicine, and so whilst we will focus on your breastfeeding journey, I am fully qualified to address other concerns to better support you to manage your early parenting journey.

Lactation specific benefits to seeing a medical practitioner include the ability to access:
   - prescriptions
   - pathology and imaging
   - referrals
   - management (not just diagnosis) of infection
   - in specific circumstances Care Plans and Mental Health Treatment Plans
Further to this, a rebate is applicable from Medicare, meaning the total out of pocket cost of my services is subsidised by Medicare.

Family home visit breastfeeding support

My approach

I currently see breastfeeding families in their own home, in order to work through breastfeeding complications in your own space and comfort. I find this is usually the most effective way to tease out problems - and definitely the most convenient for new mothers, as I can come to you! Initial appointments will always be at least 60 - 90 minutes, as we will need to go through a lot of history for both mother and baby, watch a breastfeed together and work through any concerns, as well as thoroughly examine your baby to ensure everything will go smoothly.

I always recommend at least once follow appointment, to monitor your baby's weight, work through any subsequent questions, and to provide a more tailored breastfeeding management plan.

I acknowledge the traditional Owners of Country on which we live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders past, present and emerging.
